At future Sustainable House Day activities in October, advice on lowering energy costs and building a more environmentally friendly home will be emphasized. The two-day event is being organized by Geelong Sustainability in collaboration with the Geelong municipality and will feature seminars and open houses where homeowners and business professionals will share their best tips and advice. Gordon Tafe in Geelong will conduct paid talks on Saturday, October 15 on topics like purchasing, building, and remodeling sustainably; retrofitting tips and techniques for energy efficiency; and converting a home to an all-electric one by moving off of gas.

On Sunday, people will get the chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the region's most inventive and sustainable houses in Bannockburn, Geelong, the Bellarine, and Surf Coast. With elements like thermal mass, insulation, modern building techniques, rooftop solar and battery storage, sustainable items, and draught-proofing methods on show, nine homes have been chosen for their design strategies. A 1960s Highton home serves as a model for how an old house may be converted into an all-electric home and garden, while a new St. Leonards home with an 8.8 Star passive solar design demonstrates the potential efficiency of contemporary dwellings. "Another of this year's themes, living with less, has also been chosen, and a tiny house and permaculture garden has been chosen in Jan Jun."

The Geelong Sustainability Executive Officer Dan Cowdell said, "We really wanted to showcase living smaller and how you can utilize space to build a beautiful sustainable smaller home, presenting an alternative choice to 'larger is better' Mr. Cowdell claimed that techniques of switching to an all-electric home are on many people's minds as many households face bill shock as a result of the rising cost of gas. "The knowledge, resources, and advice we are providing will help people feel comfortable switching their houses off of gas." This is crucial for the larger switch away from gas to lower emissions and move toward a future with no emissions.

Many houses around Australia will make their way for people in general for Reasonable House Day on Sunday, September 9.
